A learning center is typically a designated area within the classroom that provides students with exciting and interesting experiences to practice, enrich, reteach, and enhance their learning. These types of centers are filled with manipulatives, art materials, books, and other instructional tools.
Learning Centers are areas/activities throughout your program that allow children to manipulate materials, explore ideas, discover consequences, build, create and express themselves through art mediums. Learning Centers give the child an opportunity to make decisions and choose the timing of her learning.
Advantages of Learning Centers. Discipline problems are reduced because groups are limited to a number which can reasonably function in each area. Classroom management is easier since children are in the area of their choice and interest.
