Jan 25, 2007 · Idiocracy: Directed by Mike Judge. With Luke Wilson, Maya Rudolph, Dax Shepard, Terry Crews. Private Joe Bauers, a decisively average American, is selected as a guinea pig for a top-secret hibernation program but is forgotten, awakening to a future so incredibly moronic he's easily the most intelligent person alive.
Idiocracy is probably one of my favorite movies ever. Brought to us by the same mind that created Office Space and Beavis & Butthead, it follows the journey of an average Joe (no, really, his name is actually Joe, and he is exceptionally average in every way) as he awakens 500 years in the future to a world populated by idiots.
The satirical message of Idiocracy is that the ignorant people may outbreed the intellectual skills. This is the premise of the movie Idiocracy, in which the story focuses on the soldier Joe Bauers, an average man, chosen as a guinea pig for an experiment in hibernation.
Idiocracy is not a particularly new word, although it has picked up a new meaning recently. It can be found as far back as 1654, in Seth Ward's Vindiciæ academiarum . However, this use of the word (and pretty much all others for the next 350 years) referred to government by self-rule (the idio - in this word is the same one that we find in words such as idiosyncratic ).
