Jun 06, 2015 · If it's older HP, try to find an older version of DBAN (1.7 or 1.07 I think from memory) which works with older HP RAID controllers where the latest version doesn't. Personally I prefer active killdisk, pro version is about $100 and works well. There is a free version to try (single pass only) which should show if it sees the controller or not
Lilke u/Reo_Strong mentioned, there is Shredos with nwipe which is a Fork of DBAN out there, which is really good in destroying Data on classical HDDs or overwriting every kind of storage. but like u/SpicyTunaNinja mentioned it is a problem using it on ssds when you using classical cleaning methods and not the overwriting.

Because DBAN erases every single file on the drive, it has to run while the operating system isn't in use. To do this, you must "burn" the program to a disc (like an empty CD or DVD) or a USB device, and then run it from there, outside of the operating system, to completely erase the hard drive you want to wipe.
